I am a mathematics coach at a high school in Florida. Our state assessment is called the FCAT. The math portion of the exam is not as straight-forward as other state exams; it requires plenty of reading. I am offering and searching for better ways to increase reading in the math content area.This blog is a about using reading strategies in the mathematics content area. With No Child Left Behind, educators have to increase reading comprehension. Our youth is reading less and less everyday, but their math skills remain. Math educators have to take ownership of the entire student, not just the "math side of the brain." This site is a collection of research and ideas that will help math teachers teach their students how to read at a higher level.
